Van der Linde brothers both win national titles in 2010 (Dec 2010)

A highlight of the 2010 karting season was the repeat performance by the Van der Linde brothers of Dainfern in Gauteng of their historic feat of each winning a national karting championship in 2008 in their Birel karts.

This year Kelvin, 14, won the Engen National Karting Championship in the Junior Rok category as well as the Northern Regions Rotax Max Challenge Championship in the Junior Max category.  He missed out on a second national title by just three tenths of a point in the Rotax Max Junior Max class.

Sheldon, 11, won the national Rotax Max Challenge Mini Max class and also took the Northern Regions Mini Max title, emulating the feat of his older brother in 2008.

It was a dominant season’s performance by the two youngsters, who are the third generation of the famous Van der Linde racing family.

Kelvin beat Matthew Swanepoel 317-304 in the Junior Rok championship, winning four of the 12 races during the season and finishing on the podium seven times.  He was even more dominant in the Northern Regions Rotax championship, taking 10 wins in and 15 podiums in 18 races.

Younger brother Sheldon completed a closely-fought Rotax Max Challenge season with a 603-599,3 victory in the Mini Max class from Marco Busi.  By contrast, he easily won the regional Mini Max title 559-503 from Aeden van Vuuren, winning 15 of the 18 races and only failing to finish on the podium once.

In 2008 he won the GP Junior national title at the age of nine.

Kelvin moves up to senior circuit racing in 2011 where he will be the youngest driver to contest the Engen Volkswagen Cup in a Ferodo VW Polo.  Sheldon will graduate to either the Engen Junior Rok or the Rotax Junior Max class next year.
